Home Depot opens new store, delivers for jobs in Rhode Island

Posted on December 26, 2010

Home Depot has opened a huge new store in Westfield, Massachusetts, which will deploy products to many stores and fulfill jobs in Rhode Island.

The new rapid deployment center is a $25 million, 657,000-square-foot center. It will eventually house 250 employees.

It will also supply products to Home Depot stores throughout New England.

According to MassLive.com, General Manager Buddy D. Gatlin, formerly of Dallas and now a Southampton resident, announced the start of operations that will provide a maximum 72-hour turn-around of product from incoming to delivery to stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Rhode Island.

Home Depot said it will hire 250 employees to staff the distribution center and possibly another 100 in the very near future.

MassLive writes that the opening drew Home Depot executives from across the country, and to show the company’s support of community, those executives presented a $5,000 donation to Westfield arboretum effort to preserve and replant trees throughout the city.
