Rhode Island unemployment remains low

Posted on January 7, 2019

For the third consecutive month, Rhode Island’s unemployment rate has remained under 4 percent.

Rhode Island’s unemployment rate currently stands at 3.8 percent — its lowest since May 1989 — according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The data also shows that Rhode Island had 502,700 jobs in November, the sixth consecutive month with over half a million jobs across the state.

Governor Gina Raimondo released the following statement on the November jobs report:

“Over the past four years, we’ve strengthened the foundations of our economy – training more workers, supporting small businesses, bringing in new companies, and fixing our aging infrastructure.

This new approach has led to record job creation and the highest number of working Rhode Islanders in a decade.

Now, our focus is on sustaining that progress. Our strategy is working, and I’m committed to expanding our education and job training initiatives to ensure that every Rhode Islander feels included in our economic recovery.”
