RI Social Work Jobs with Juveniles

One Rhode Island department is recruiting and training people interested in future RI social work jobs.

The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families is currently seeking candidates for its Pre-Service Training Academy, which prepares those interested in employment as juvenile program workers at the Rhode Island Training School for Youth.

Juvenile program workers provide for the custody, supervision and security of youth at the training school. Duties may include assisting in rehabilitation, education and treatment of youth.

Of those who apply, 20 people will be selected to participate in the six-week academy, during which time they’ll receive a $400 per week stipend. Those who successfully complete the academy will be eligible for future juvenile program worker vacancies at the Roosevelt Benton Assessment Center, Youth Development Center and the Female Resident Unit of the state’s juvenile correctional program.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 21-years old, possess a valid driver’s license and be fluent in English. Applicants also should have at least an associate’s degree from an accredited college, preferably with a specialization in behavioral science or social work, and experience working in a responsible position in a clinical or correctional treatment facility.

To be considered for the academy, applicants also must successfully complete a physical fitness screening. Those who are chosen as juvenile program workers will receive a starting salary of $37,460.
