Corrections facility hires for Rhode Island law enforcement jobs
Posted on October 30, 2011
A corrections facility announced it has made a key hire for Rhode Island law enforcement jobs.
Lou Cerbo of Cranston has become the RIDOCs Clinical Director/Psychologist, effective October 11, 2011. In this capacity, Dr. Cerbo is responsible for mental health and substance abuse treatment within the states correctional facilities. He replaces Dr. Fredric Friedman who retired in December of 2010.
Dr. Cerbo is no stranger to the ACI. During his 7 years as Administrator of Adult Psychiatric Services/Director of Psychological Services of BHDDHs Eleanor Slater Hospital, he was helpful in resolving some difficult transfers of ACI inmates to and from the Forensic Unit located in the basement of the Pinel Building on the Pastore Complex. It was in this capacity that Director Wall and Assistant Director for Rehabilitative Services Roberta Richman observed his work and were impressed with his professionalism. He was a natural successor to our previous Clinical Director, notes Ms. Richman.
Dr. Cerbo comes to the RIDOC from the V.A. Medical Center, where he was Clinical Psychologist from May 2010 until he was hired by the RIDOC. Prior to his service at Eleanor Slater Hospital, he held a number of hospital positions and also provided forensic evaluation, assessment and clinical therapy to inmates at Bridgewater State Hospital and the Bristol County House of Correction in Massachusetts and the Donald W. Wyatt Federal Prison in Central Falls as Forensic Psychologist.
A member of numerous professional societies including the American Board of Forensic Examiners and the Rhode Island Psychological Association, Dr. Cerbo has presented numerous lectures and workshops and has obtained several professional licenses and board certifications.
