Courthouse Creates Rhode Island Construction Jobs

Posted on July 14, 2010

The creation of a courthouse in California is being directed by Gilbane, a project that will create Rhode Island construction jobs.

The federal courthouse is expected to create hundreds of opportunities for locals, but also many opportunities for Rhode-Island based Gilbane.

The project is expected to take two years. The courthouse will house a U.S. Magistrate Court plus Marshals Service and Probation and Pretrial Services offices.

Gilbane is presiding over the design and construction of the courthouse. It’s expected to be about 34,000 sq feet. About 250 labor positions are expected to be created, and 30% will be outsourced to Rhode Islanders.

The project is expected to cost almost $30 million and is being funded by the American Recovery and Revinestment Act.

The out-of-towners will also contribute to the local economy by sleeping in local hotels, buying food at restaurants, and entertainment.

According to its website, Gilbane Inc., based in Providence, Rhode Island, is one of the largest privately held family-owned companies in the construction and real estate industry.
